About

The Dogchester · South Lanarkshire

Dog & owner training for a happier everyday life.

Practical, kind training for the things that matter when you are living together: listening, walking, coming back, settling, greetings and feeling like you are on the same team.

Training you attend together

You know your dog best. We help you teach them.

Dog & Owner Training is for people who want to be part of the learning process from the beginning, with clear guidance they can use well beyond a single session or course.

Whether you have a new puppy, a lovely dog who needs a little more polish, or a particular everyday challenge making life harder, we focus on achievable skills, better communication and kind, reward-based teaching.

Residential Training is different.
Residential Training is where your dog stays with us for a structured programme. Here, you attend with your dog and learn how to continue the work at home, where it matters most.

Finding the right route

Training a skill is not the same as changing an emotion.

We make this distinction because it helps dogs get the right support, rather than asking them to simply “behave” when they are struggling.

Dog & Owner Training may be right if…

  • You want to teach a new behaviour or skill
  • You need support with recall, lead walking or settling
  • You would like a more polite, responsive family dog
  • Your puppy needs a confident and positive start
  • You want practical coaching you can use at home

Behaviour Modification may be more appropriate if…

  • Your dog has a strong fear, anxiety or frustration response
  • They react intensely to dogs, people or situations
  • Walks or normal situations create overwhelm or distress
  • The difficulty feels emotional rather than simply untrained
  • You are not sure what type of help your dog needs

If you are unsure, tell us what is happening. We will help you work out whether a class, one-to-one training, behaviour-led support or Residential Training is the kindest and most useful next step.

The Dogchester approach

Good training should feel good for both of you.

We use kind, reward-based teaching that helps dogs understand what is being asked of them, rather than relying on fear, force or intimidation.

The goal is never a robot dog. It is a dog who can cope more easily with the human world, and an owner who feels calmer and more confident about how to help them.

You will learn how to break a skill into achievable steps, reward effectively and carry the work into your own routines at home.
